Dentax takes Winter Stakes; El Galo struggles
The final of the Winter Stake, run over 520 metres at Wentworth Park on Saturday night 4 July, was meant to be the showcase moment when Victorian star El Galo finally wrested the record prize money mantle from the great New South Wales sprinter Rapid Journey. As so often happens, the race didn't follow the fairytale script, although the result was a triumph for the famous Wheeler breed.

What could Zoom Top have earned today?
For a record 10 years, and counting, the great Rapid Journey has held the Australian prize money mark. Back in 1970 one of the true champions of the sport, Zoom Top, broke down at her last start and was retired with a then-record $59,032 in prize money, a mark not surpassed for nearly four years. What would she have earned in 2009?

This now looks certain to be the last time
Just on a year ago I was informed by the management at Defax Sporting Publications that this website would be incorporated into the Greyhound Racing NSW site and my services would no longer be required. Then, just before the axe was to fall I was asked to keep contributing for an as yet unspecified period. That period has lasted just over a year, but now I have once more been told this site will finally be made redundant, and me with it.

A fast -burning star: Red Zero
So many greyhounds over the years appear to emerge from the shadows at just the right time, burn brightly on the national stage for a few weeks or months, and then they're gone, usually into premature retirement. Such a greyhound was Red Zero.
