Bulli
Review - December 31st, 2008 -
by Ron Arnold
As another year came to a close it was a case of deja vu with the Fletcher clan
again setting their sights on the big group races at the Bulli circuit over January.
One of our sports greatest ever producers has again found the right click following the win of Magnifique in the Cabra Vale Diggers Stake and the black chaser will be Gold Plate bound.
Magnifique (Brett Lee x Thai Again) opened his winning account at the Slacky Flat course and clocked a very smart 26.36 seconds and in doing so scored by a hollow 11 and a quarter lengths.
At box rise Magnifique (8) stepped only moderately but quickly accelerated to be a clear leader at the top bend. Giving chase was Lucas Bale (3) and Danny's Secret (1) but they were never to match the flying front-runner.
They breed 'em big at the Menangle Park Kennels and this 37kg chaser was an impressive sight as he bounded down the long home straight. In winning by his huge margin Magnifique defeated Lucas Bale with third place going to Danny's Secret a further two lengths away.
Magnifique is owned and trained by Julie Fletcher and the 22 month old fella has now won three of his four starts to date. Lucas Bale is by Collision x Sorrento Bale and is trained by Simon Rhodes with 11 starts for two wins and seven placings whilst Danny's Secret is by Collision x World Secret and for trainer Paul Turner has had 16 career starts for two wins and seven placings.
Dapto

The action on the Dapto track was exciting
with the Illawarra Yacht Club Trophy heats highlighting the card.
After being out of the money in the last few starts the Alfred Chircop trained Maria's Conquest grabbed a narrow victory in a heat and brought up career win number 16.
At box rise, it was Dana Tiger (3) who showed out with Maria's Conquest (2) and Dynamic Tucklan (6) both prominent. This trio broke clear of the rest with Dana Tiger still showing the way as heads were turned for home.
The leader drifted off the fence which gave Maria's Conquest a chance to push underneath and in a driving finish Maria's Conquest was able to win by a head over Dana Tiger with Dynamic Tucklan back in third place.
The 520 metres was clocked in 30.32 seconds and of course like all winners on the night Maria's Conquest was able to earn the new prize money level which is nearly a 50% increase.
Maria's Conquest is by Token Prince x Gypsy Model and is owned by Kon Kola with 70 career starts for 16 wins and 14 placings. Dana Tiger for trainer Rod McDonald is by Collision x Dana Betty and from 22 career starts has won 10 with five placings whilst the Geoff Gudgeon trained Dynamic Tucklan is by Modern Assassin x Zanna Monroe and from 26 starts has six wins and nine placings.
Richmond

The Richmond GRC staged their first meeting
for the New Year last Friday night with the regular half mile event providing
a great racing spectacle.
The Robert Graham owned and trained Nanna's Pie has found a career in the longer journey following an all the way win in the Western Weekender Distance Stake and made it back to back wins over the course.
The trainer made a quick decision to put the 27kg black chaser over further ground at the early part of her career and this decision has been justified with the daughter of Most Awesome proving hard to run down.
From the start Nanna's Pie (2) went straight to the front and led over Lightening Lizzy (4) with No Way Aaron (1) pushing underneath at the first corner.
At the one lap mark Nanna's Pie led with both No Way Aaron and Black Bolter racing right on her hammer. Each time the chasers looked likely to grab the leader it was Nanna's Pie who kept lifting.
Turning for home Nanna's Pie continued to rally and despite a late surge by No Way Aaron was able to hold on to win by three quarters length whilst Black Bolter held third place a further one and a half lengths away.
The 717 metres was clocked in 42.29 seconds.
Nanna's Pie (x Eureka Disco) has now had nine starts which include four wins and two placings. No Way Aaron is by Dalalla x No Way Carol and is trained by Carolyn Reinke with 16 career starts for three wins and six placings whilst Black Bolter is by Most Awesome x Eureka Disco and is trained by John Rylands with 35 career starts for four wins and 15 placings.
Wentworth Park

With a few group races around the corner it was time for some last minute probables to go through their routine and one noted improver over recent weeks has been the Wayne Boreland trained Reb Secret who scored in the TAB Jackpot Free-For-All over 520 metres at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.
One interesting note about the 30kg black chaser is that his last three wins at the Glebe circuit have been carrying the white rug.
Showing good pace at the start Reb Secret led on settling down over Cold Ethyl (2) and the favourite Spring Lee (8) moving up out wide. Leaving the straight the popular fancy was pushed deep and then again in the back straight was knocked down.
While this was unfolding Reb Secret had skipped away with a winning lead and turned for home full of running. Racing to the judge Reb Secret eventually scored by three lengths over Cold Ethyl with Andy's Ghost grabbing third place a neck away.
The time was recorded at 30.29 seconds.
Reb Secret is by Collide x Secret Session and overall now has won 11 with 11 placings from 31 career starts. Cold Ethyl is by Big Daddy Cool x Little Receiver and for trainer Peter McCann has now had 47 starts for seven wins and 18 placings whilst the John Antonelli trained Andy's Ghost is by Cyrus The Virus x Matilda With Me and from 24 appearances now has five wins and 10 placings.

Bathurst
Review - December 26th, 2008 - by Greg Hore
A big crowd turned out for Bathurst's traditional Boxing Night meeting which was
lucky to go ahead after wild thunderstorms caused the track to be washed away
four times in a week. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped out shoveling
sand (including on Christmas Day) and had the track in top order with several
fast times being registered.
Rob Shepherd of Freeman's Reach claimed training honours with a winning double. Gonzo Conquest took out the Fish & Sons Produce Xmas Gift Final with a near all the way effort in a slick 17.87. Magic Mirage finished second just over two lengths behind with a similar margin back to Fair Collision who grabbed third spot.
In the opening race on the eleven race card Loyal Conquest surprised most with a fast 26.02 maiden success holding off the heavily backed Bells Report by half a length.
Promising youngster Bells Pace set the time standard with a flying 25.88in the final heat of the Bathurst Trophies & Gifts New Years Gift. Trained locally by Kevin Perace the son of Elite State and Agreement trailed pacemaker Simple As That to the half way mark before powering away for a five length victory with Your So Vane.
Spring Creek gave her rivals a galloping lesson in the first run-off easily accounting for On My Mind and Hear No Evil in a slick 26.03.
Lidsdale couple Mick Glasson & Kim Hyde were celebrating when She's The Goodes snared the $2,000 jackpot pool in registering her second win on end downing Stella Starlight and Big Toll in heat 2 clocking 26.26.
Tittle Tat, a litter-mate to She's The Goodes, scored a nippy 17.94 win on debut for St. Mary's conditioner Alan Campbell and it appears that the members of the Trewly Special X Tell Tall Tails mating have above average ability.
Newly crowned Bathurst GOTY Bells Fair capped off a stellar year with another near record romp of 17.57 in the 307m Free For All defeating Captain Teddy by five lengths with veteran Earllee in third. During 2008 Bells Fair racked up 26 wins for Mount Lambie mentor Mark Vella including 16 from 23 at Kennerson Park.
High Five Flyer continued Earl Anderson's terrific run of success over the past 18 months with a strong finishing 18.07 win in defeating Amost Invisible and Scandalous Miss.
Back To School proved too strong for It's All Blue and Kara's Princess in the Siska Lodge Encourage over 618 metres posting 36.90 for Emu Plains trainer Paul Hubbard.
The Les Whitton prepared Five Shots put her best paw forward and was never headed in scoring a 26.13 victory over Gandhi's heart and How Convenient with the margins being three lengths each way.
Another Lidsdale based mentor Brett Bowerman led in the winner of the last when Fast Andy accounted for Pat The Leopard and Myalla Betsy in a nippy 17.89.
Check out the features for the rapidly approaching GRNSW Country Challenge Orange Cup Carnival which commences on January 10 which are advertised in this week's publications.
